Currently over 175 schools from 86 Georgia public school districts are participating in the credit recovery program. As the program continues to grow, look for changes in registration and procedures to help streamline the use of this program for both facilitators and students.

What is the Credit Recovery Program? Minimize

The GA DOE Credit Recovery Program is a collaborative initiative between the Division of School Improvement and the GA Virtual School.  It is an opportunity for a student to retake a course that he/she previously was not academically successful in earning credit towards graduation.

  • Credit Recovery courses are designed to be on a flexibile schedule and are not facilitated by a teacher.  If you are looking for a teacher led course on a semester schedule, please go to GA Virtual School for more information.
  • Credit recovery options allow students that have completed seat time and calendar requirements to earn credit based on competency of the content standards.
  • Credit Recovery courses are complete courses containing all GPS content on which the student will demonstrate mastery before receiving a new grade.
  • The Credit Recovery program offers core courses required for graduation from a Georgia Public High School.
  • The program is only available to Georgia public high schools.
  • While the program is provided free to participating Georgia public high schools, the local school may incur a fee in offering the program, which will in turn be passed on to students.
