Middle School Technology Literacy Assessment

Georgia Virtual School and the Office of Technology Services, Title II-D, for the Georgia Department of Education (GADOE), announce the availability of an additional assessment option for middle schools to test the technology literacy of 8th grade students.

The portion of the No Child Left Behind (NCLB) Act known as "Enhancing Education Through Technology Act of 2001" (E2T2) has a goal:  to assist every student in crossing the digital divide by ensuring that every student is technologically literate by the time the student finishes the eighth grade, regardless of the student's race, ethnicity, gender, family income, geographic location, or disability.  In order to comply with the proposed Georgia Performance Standards for Technology Across the Curriculum (TAC) and ISTE standards (6), all 8th graders in the state of Georgia are required to take a technology assessment to measure their level of technology literacy.  Students must demonstrate proficiency in all six ISTE technology standards in order to pass the technology assessment.  Currently, schools have a choice of which assessment tools they use to measure technology literacy, and the assessments offered through Georgia DOE are simply another choice.

Georgia Virtual School and the Office of Technology Services, Title II-D, for the GADOE have collaborated to create three 60 question assessments addressing the technology standard requirements.  These assessments will be accessible through the Office of Standards, Instruction, and Assessment’s Online Assessment System (OAS).  For Title II-D information on technology literacy compliance, please visit  www.georgiastandards.org/toolkit.aspx
